Kaon - technology applied

HADES - Technical specification

Developed for Dstl - the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, UK for use on Royal Navy submarines. HADES provides advanced Bow array signal processing and associated sonar display features along with non-traditional sonar processing techniques.

Broadband display processing is provided by Cross Correlation and Energy Detection processing. These produce different broadband images at configurable integration rates. A variety of normalisation techniques are used to enhance the broadband images for different operating environments, thus enhancing recognition differential. All options are continuously available to the operator to visualise with full history without the need for reprocessing, or updates based on new data only. A selection of different colour maps is provided to suit the conditions or user preferences. In addition automatic contact followers are available.

Narrowband processing and displays are also available in parallel these are available with full history on all beams. In addition a number of advanced display and processing techniques are employed to provide advanced situational awareness.

In addition to the Broadband and Narrowband displays and processing, there are a variety of other displays and aural/signal processing toolkits available to the operator for detailed signal analysis.

HADES also provides open interfaces that allow a variety of detection algorithms to be inserted into the system at various positions in the processing streams, with the corresponding detections being fed to the user. A number of non-traditional sonar processing techniques have been inserted into HADES. Kaon maintain a significant skills base in the development and implementation of such algorithms.

The user interface has been designed to be extremely intuitive and easy to use, it was commissioned and developed in conjunction with some of the UK leading sonar operators.

HADES is viewed, as the next generation Bow processing and display engine.
